New year, new era.
After a decade as the unmistakable frontwoman of pop-rock band Misterwives, Mandy Lee‘ is stepping into a bold new chapter. With Misterwives taking a well-earned pause toward the end of 2024, Lee reemerges fully reborn, not just solo, but unleashed. Cherry Bomb isn’t a side project. It’s a reclamation.
Trading guitar-driven pop for high-voltage synths, Cherry Bomb arrives as a full-fledged synth-pop princess, blending maximalist production with raw emotional honesty. The debut single, “Never Be Me (M*ther f*cker),” plays like an ode to a never-ending ’80s sleepover, neon lights, mascara running, dancing anyway. The synths feel both deeply nostalgic and strikingly modern, wrapping defiance in glitter and groove.
At its core, Cherry Bomb stands for artistic freedom and feminine power. It’s about choosing yourself loudly, unapologetically, and with style. No compromises. No shrinking. Just pure creative combustion.
Lee describes the track as “a defiant declaration of independence dressed up in maximalist synth pop made for dancing out a loveless love,” and that ethos pulses through every beat. This is existential pop with teeth, music that moves your body while cutting straight to the bone. I look forward to hearing more tracks from Cherry Bomb and hopefully soon watching Mandy Lee bring it to life on stage.
