Mumford & Sons

After seven months of RUSHMERE, Mumford & Sons have returned and taken full advantage of a prolific period of songwriting with another album in quick succession. RUSHMERE was the band’s long-anticipated No. 1 album released in March 2025, but their newest full-length record, Prizefighter, sees Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane re-energized, rejuvenated, and in the best form of their lives. Essentially, Prizefighter embraces and reflects the lightness, darkness, excitement, enthusiasm, and everything in between within 14 songs.

Co-produced and co-written with Aaron Dessner (The National), who previously worked with M&S on their third record, Wilder Mind, Prizefighter captures the band at their most open and instinctive. In only 10 days, they wrote more than an album’s worth of songs, resulting in a collection that felt personal, instinctive, and unguardedly communal. Marcus’ lyrics grapple with resilience and striving with a mix of confidence and urgency.

Prizefighter‘s lead single, “Rubber Band Man” with Hozier, was recorded at Long Pond Studios in upstate New York alongside producer Aaron Dessner. Dessner previously worked with the band on their Wilder Mind album, which debuted at No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic. Hozier’s involvement came from a friendship with the band stretching back to 2017, when he joined the band on stage to cover The Beatles’ ” With a Little Help from My Friends” when they headlined at the Longitude Festival. Additionally, he guested with them at the Austin City Limits Festival (Texas) in 2023.

The lead single is a confident next step for the band, who’ve been busy touring the previous 12 months after the single’s release, with RUSHMERE merely being the starting point. With more songs than they knew what to do with, the band left the Long Pond Studio door open. Hozier then made the first meaningful connection of many studio collaborations, and his distinctive, rich baritone complements Marcus’ vocals perfectly.

Since the RUSHMERE release, M&S have largely been on the road across the U.S., playing a string of sold-out arena dates with a return to a tour they initially started over a decade ago, joined with support from Maggie Rogers and Noah Kahan. Following this new single, the band returned to the U.K. and Europe for a 22-date run from the end of November to the beginning of December 2025, with two hometown shows at O2 Arena (London).

We feel like we’re hitting our prime as a creative force. We’re putting everything we have into this now, and we’re using everything about our experience so far to embrace exactly who we are. We’re comfortable in our skins these days. And Prizefighter is us going for it – serious and playful, sometimes bruised and always hopeful. We’re nowhere near done yet.” -Marcus Mumford
