Internationally renowned and influential band The Lumineers marked their 20-year anniversary late last year by teaming up with the GOAL Projects, which is a creative studio from the global soccer media brand GOAL. By teaming up with the project, they’ve additionally created a limited-edition soccer jersey. The collaboration is the second release in the project’s series with Common Goal, connecting iconic musicians with hometown teams in support of grassroots soccer. The Lumineers’ hometown squad, the West Aurora Girls Soccer Team, was backed by Soccer Without Borders (SWB), a national organization that supports newcomer and immigrant youth in overcoming barriers through participation in sports to gain a sense of belonging and build social capital. The West Aurora team, while wearing the Lumineers jersey for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, is made up of different refugee communities in the Northwest corridor of Aurora (CO). The 2024-25 team represented athletes from 13 different countries and won SWB’s Denver Global Goal 5, a league specifically designed to promote greater gender equity in soccer for newcomer girls.
Proceeds from jersey sales will help cover SWB’s league fees, new equipment, coaching, and transportation, ensuring soccer remains free and accessible for every Aurora West player. Fans will spot the tributes to the band’s legacy woven throughout the jersey – album-inspired artwork wrapping each sleeve, a bespoke Lumineers crest incorporating fan favorites like “Stubborn Love” and “Brightside,” the band’s signature “eye & vine” motif expanded into a full-body pattern, lyrics pulled from “Sleeping on the Floor,” and the number “05” marking the year of the band’s formation.
“These players, we found our home and our creative family in Colorado. Through this project, we want to celebrate their grit and support their dreams, on the field and beyond.” — Wesley Schultz
Following their 44-date “Automatic World Tour” across North America, where the Lumineers headlined stadiums, arenas, and amphitheaters, the band surprised the Aurora West players with some of their own road cases containing new kits, autographed jerseys, and a video message recorded by the band. The team is one of a handful supported by SWB, which has a very strong Colorado presence, serving more than 900 youth athletes of all kinds with free soccer, academic, and leadership programs. SWB has created a space for belonging and growth on and off the pitch.
Long champions of social causes—from environmental sustainability and human rights to youth mental health, music education, and hunger relief—The Lumineers have organized “Colorado Gives Back,” a live-streaming event featuring hometown musicians and athletes, supporting musicians and restaurant workers affected by COVID-19. Ensuring that each collaboration effectively addresses a local need and helps create a lasting impact, GOAL Projects partnered with Common Goal, an award-winning global movement that activates the power of soccer to bring people together and deliver positive, society-wide change. Collectively, GOAL Projects and Common Goal have engaged with 3.6 million young people annually in over 100 countries. Following Anderson .Paak, who supported the U-9 girls team from Oxnard (CA), the Oxnard Eagles, The Lumineers continue this immaculate movement within youth sports and academics.

“Soccer Without Borders was founded to use soccer as a common language — a way to build community and foster inclusion. For a band as beloved as The Lumineers to reach out, see us, and form this bridge through our language of soccer means the world to SWB’s participants. We are so excited to see SWB’s West Aurora girls take the field in these new jerseys this season.” -Matt Kaiser, Director of SWB Colorado.
