Broadside released yet another new single, “Dark Passenger”

Broadside has released yet another BANGER for me to obsess over. Just last June, I raved about their song, “Warning Signs,” and now we have this one, “Dark Passenger.” These two tracks, along with three others released since April 2025, are all a part of their new album, Nowhere, At Last — coming April 10. If nothing, this group certainly knows how to diversify their sound with powerful lyricism while still maintaining an overall cohesive vibe. Frontman Oliver Baxxter shares that this track is about that familiar shadow, when your anxiety or depression stops feeling like a visitor but more like a roommate, an unwanted one. There’s a push-and-pull relationship that happens because it creates this darkness, but it’s intoxicating and comforting, because it’s all you know.

“Dark Passenger” is meant to go into those habits that you can’t seem to rid yourself of because they continue to cling, and it’s exhausting to fight them anymore. It continues to pull you under, no matter how much you fight or choose to embrace the differences. It might feel like a “home,” but that’s because looks can be oh so deceiving.

Battles like these often remind me of toxic relationships, especially those with love bombing. It might seem good, and it presents itself in this nice demeanor, but it’s fake. Good character and feelings do not make a good person or situation; in fact, I’d argue that it makes the situationship more dangerous to escape and pull free.

I really love the chorus and the line “your venom is intoxicating, kinda like it,” which really expresses the gravity of the situation. Venom is poisonous, but sometimes we like the feelings of negativity. It becomes comforting because we choose to give in and believe those voices. Those voices are far from the truth and should not become something we seek home in.

I love how raw and authentic Broadside presents themselves in the music; it truly creates this energy level that draws you in. To say that I’m excited for this upcoming album is an understatement.

They recently opened up for State Champs at a few shows earlier this month, but have no fear—more shows are to come! They will be on the lineup for “An Emo Extravaganza” in Australia in February, opening for The Maine in select cities in April, and playing at Slam Dunk Fest in May. Unfortunately, none of these shows are near me; hopefully, one will come later this year. Either way, “Dark Passenger” is on all streaming platforms. Give it a listen and fall in love with its dark, intoxicating beauty.
