Texas death metal force Frozen Soul have released a new 53-second blast titled “Absolute Zero” via Century Media Records, and it wastes no time making its point. No buildup, no excess, just a direct shot that pulls equally from punk urgency, hardcore aggression, and old school death metal weight.
Frontman Chad Green calls the track a stance against authoritarianism, explaining that the chaos unfolding in the country shaped the message behind the song. Rather than bury that frustration in metaphor, “Absolute Zero” delivers it head-on. The runtime alone tells you everything you need to know. It hits, says what it needs to say, and gets out.
The accompanying video mirrors that approach. Green swings a sledgehammer carved with the word “icebreaker,” destroying a frozen skull in a single, symbolic act. It is simple, physical, and intentional. The best ice is crushed ice.
Frozen Soul has built their reputation on direct, in-your-face death metal rooted in the old school. Influenced by bands like Bolt Thrower, Mortician, and Obituary, they emerged from the Texas underground, blending hardcore intensity with thrash and death metal roots. Across their breakout EP Encased in Ice and full-lengths Crypt of Ice and Glacial Domination, the band has carved out a lane that feels traditional without sounding dated.
They are currently on the road across the U.K. and Europe alongside Heaven Shall Burn and The Black Dahlia Murder, before heading stateside in April for a U.S. run with Avatar and Fleshgod Apocalypse. The touring schedule alone makes it clear that Frozen Soul is not slowing down.
“Absolute Zero” may clock in under a minute, but it reinforces what has made Frozen Soul one of the more talked-about names in modern death metal. Direct message, old school weight, and zero filler.
