When I heard that Ruel, an Australian singer and songwriter from Sydney, was on his “Kicking My Feet” tour and coming to Charlotte, North Carolina, I knew it would be an unforgettable night! I grew up listening to some of his hit singles “Painkiller,” “Dazed & Confused,” and “Growing Up Is ____.”
Arriving at the venue, The Underground, you could feel the radiating energy from the fans. Many had on “I heart Ruel” shirts, leather jackets, and cowboy hats. Fans sang his songs while lined up around the building as the clock counted down to the doors opening. I can say with confidence that Ruel fans are the sweetest, kindest, most genuine people! Everyone in attendance was looking out for one another and genuinely cared for others around them! This is a rare experience at concerts nowadays.
When the clock hit 8 p.m., Arthur Hill opened the show! The 26-year-old singer-songwriter from the U.K. had every North Carolinian dancing their hearts out! He sang multiple of his brilliant hits, “Appetite,” “Right Now,” and my personal favorite, “Dead In The Disco.” Arthur Hill has this energy like no other! Despite his set only being 30 minutes, he put on one amazing show. I would love to see him headline in the near future!
Standing in the photo pit, as the lights started flashing and fans were screaming, was unforgettable. Ruel busted through a door center stage and shook the crowd with his insane vocals! I will never forget hearing him sing “Not What’s Going On” and “Dazed & Confused.” The multi-instrumentalist showcased his talents on electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and keyboard.
I am over the moon that I finally got to check off seeing Ruel in concert! Knowing how pure and raw his voice is changes the vibe completely while listening to his music. It makes every song feel deeper and hits your soul in ways you can’t explain.
