Named BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record, “She Knows Too Much” is Thundercat‘s newest single featuring the late Mac Miller, out now. Part of the album Distracted, out April 3 via Brainfeeder Records, Thundercat released this single, believing it would be a perfect fit for the album, and worked with the Mac Miller Estate to bring the ultimate vision of the collaboration. “She Knows Too Much” captures the sound of two friends – Mac sounding as carefree and assured as ever, while Thundercat’s sturdy bass and wispy falsetto set the song’s laidback tone. Reflecting on his time with Mac, Thundercat shares, “What a joy to have experienced.”

Accompanying the single is an animated video directed by Léa Esmaili, who blended 2D and 3D animation to build the story of two friends having a crazy day together, fitting for the spirit of the song.

Distracted is Thundercat’s first album in six years and dives deep into the tension between overstimulation and introspection. Thundercat plays with the idea of “technological progress,” poking fun at concepts like Star Trek and technology that exists to spy on people, remaining skeptical of their true advantages. The album pushes listeners to consider the drawbacks of distraction, but also realize the benefits, sharing “Sometimes you need to be distracted to focus in a different way.”
