Florida metalcore band Wage War have announced a brand-new EP titled “It Calls Me by Name,” set to release on April 17 through Fearless Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has dropped the first single from the EP, “Song of the Swamp,” along with an accompanying music video. The release marks the band’s first new batch of material since the 2024 release of STIGMA. Fans have been eager to hear what the band has been working on, and the announcement immediately puts the spotlight back on one of modern metalcore’s most consistent acts.
The track leans heavily into the band’s aggressive side, with the lowest tuning a guitar can sit in, animal noises, and the type of jam you cannot sit still for. “Song of the Swamp” showcases their newest accomplishments in musicianship and is one of the heaviest songs the band has released in years. The video matches their Florida roots, with black-camo combo, gator-infested waters, and the band playing along… in the swamp. The song wastes little time getting to the point, automatically locking into a groove that feels like both punishing and controlling. It’s the kind of song you hop on a motorcycle or speedboat to, and fight someone in a mosh pit live.
Members of the band describe it as the tone-setter for the upcoming EP; it “reflects the environment they grew up in,” combining the intensity of nature with the band’s signature heavy sound. The upcoming EP is not intended to follow a strict concept, but serve as a collection of songs shaped by the band’s experiences and influences. Built around heavy riffs and memorable hooks, the release pushes Wage War’s palette while still keeping the elements fans have come to expect. The imagery behind the track draws heavily from the chaos and unpredictability of the swamps surrounding their home state. That sense of tension and danger translates directly into the song’s mood, giving the track a raw and aggressive identity.
“It Calls Me by Name” is a five-track EP to be released on April 17. The track list is: “Song of the Swamp,” “4×4,” “Blindfold,” “Karma,” and “Purify.” In support of the EP, Wage War has a 21-stop tour from the end of April until the end of May with the support of Orthodox and Nevertel.
