On March 8, 2026, Saint Valentine released their brand new single “Curse On My Heart” ft. Wyse which dives into shattering the vulnerability armor someone might have to be able to understand that they are meant to be here on this earth. The single is so raw and authentic that any listener who gives this song a chance will understand the message through the lyricism. “Curse On My Heart” feels like an open confession, and as the song continues, it’s filled with uncomfortable emotions, but made more into humor for listeners to be able to have the strength to truly look at themselves and know their worth.
Interviewer: For new fans, can you give us some insight about who you are as an artist?
Saint Valentine: “I’m Saint Valentine! I started as a drag artist with a persona of a killer yandere demonic entity that would take the form of your deepest romantic fantasy when summoned. Then I took a turn into music and created my weird little medieval project about a king that wishes he was born a jester for my EP Transjester (yes, it is a pun). Now I’m just figuring out whatever story entices me to tell next!”
Interviewer: With this new single, what was the emotional spark that led you to write this song?
Saint Valentine: “Coming off of my debut single ‘THE BEACH HOUSE (AN OMEN),’ I had put into words what the initial breakup with my ex was, but I realized I didn’t have a song about the grieving process, and that part was a whole lot more difficult than the initial first crack in the glass, so to speak. I wanted to write about my experience with neglect, suffering with severe mental illness, addiction, and eating disorders while my ex paid it all no mind. I needed to put into words how isolating it feels to be at your lowest and have the person who is supposed to love you the most never notice how bad things really are. Sometimes things are so normalized to you that you need someone who cares for you to point out how it’s wrong. It took me getting with a person who truly loves me to realize I needed help. During said help, I wrote this song. “
Interviewer: Was writing this song therapeutic for you?
Saint Valentine: “Of course it was! I wrote it during rehab! It helped me put into words the grief of ‘why didn’t you say anything?’ or ‘how didn’t you see how bad this was getting?’ I also think I ate my ex up with these lyrics. After my song ‘Beach House,’ he took to social media to post about me. I like to think that song was rather amicable, but he didn’t agree with my interpretation of the story. But baby, you don’t wanna go toe to toe with me when it comes to my poetry. I feel I read his ass down, and I’m very proud of that. In life, you don’t always get the ‘yeah, I said exactly what I needed to say to end this argument.’”
Interviewer: Were there any particular sounds or instruments you used to mirror the emotional weight?
Saint Valentine: “Most of the musical elements of the song were due to the brilliance of my collaborator, Luca Yannuzzi, aka Wyse. I wrote some basic chords, and I liked the sound of the deep, downbeat acoustic guitars. However, he really took the song where it needed to go.”
Interviewer: This single has a collaboration. What led you to have Wyse be part of the creative process?
Saint Valentine: “Luca (Wyse) has been a part of my creative process since my third ever song. Before that, really, as we’ve been playing music together since around when my song ‘Darling Avenue’ came out. Through the almost two years now that we’ve known each other, he’s added so much power and depth to not only my music, but my life. He’s a genuine friend, and it’s so wonderful to have a friend whose voice sounds so good when harmonizing with yours. I love making music with him, and I knew I wanted to have a song where I could show him off even more. That’s when I offered him ‘Curse On My Heart,’ figuring we could take a solo song and split the perspectives and create an angsty duet. The rest is history.”
Interviewer: What emotion do you hope listeners feel when they hear this song?
Saint Valentine: “Solidarity, humor, validity. I want people to feel seen by these lyrics.”
Interviewer: What do you hope people take away after their first listen?
Saint Valentine: “I always hope that with my music, I put into words something that someone else had no idea how to describe. It’s always helped me when a song explains exactly how I feel or felt. Part of it is a ‘damn, I wish I thought of that!’ but the other part is ‘wow, this is exactly what I need right now.’ It makes you feel like you belong in the universe when the perfect song finds you at the perfect time, like it was some kind of spiritual plan. I hope this song finds people when they need it. I hope it makes them feel like that.”
