Portuguese masked metal collective GAEREA have unveiled their latest single and video, “Nomad.” The track is the newest preview from their upcoming album Loss, set for release on March 20 via Century Media Records.
The band describes the song as an exploration of alienation and emotional displacement. “The Nomad is the individual who goes through life at a constant moving pace just to avoid facing oneself. Physically drifting, but emotionally running from guilt, self doubt, and a fear of becoming something to despise,” the band explains. “At its core, it is a confession of alienation. A nomad not by choice, but by self punishment and inner collapse.”
The video for “Nomad” was directed by Tre Film and continues the visual narrative surrounding the upcoming record. Like previous videos released from Loss, the clip expands on the band’s stark aesthetic and ritualistic atmosphere.
Over the past decade, GAEREA has carved out a distinct identity within extreme music, blending elements of black metal, post-metal, and atmospheric soundscapes. Their music often explores the darker edges of the human psyche while maintaining an emotional depth that pushes beyond traditional genre boundaries.
The band’s anonymity is central to their identity. Performing entirely masked with a sigil replacing their faces, GAEREA emphasizes collective expression rather than individual recognition. Their audience has become known as The Vortex Society, a community drawn together by the band’s exploration of emotional extremity and philosophical themes.
Recorded in Portugal with longtime collaborator Miguel Teroso at Demigod Recordings, Loss represents the band’s most focused and emotionally direct work to date. The record was created by the same lineup responsible for the acclaimed album Coma.
Across nine tracks, the album brings together nearly a decade of musical evolution, pushing GAEREA further into their own unique territory within modern extreme music.
