On March 6, 2026, the “Tejano Punk Boyz” from Stephenville, Texas, Giovannie and The Hired Guns, paid a visit to Abilene, TX, venue Potosi Live. The night was already in a high presence of energy and readiness for some live talent.
Potosi, TX, might be a small area in Taylor County, TX, but one place that keeps the night energy going is the venue Potosi Live. This venue has been a growing musical haven for years, bringing various respected names in the country music industry, such as Kolby Cooper, Wade Bowen, and Pecos & The Rooftops. Potosi Live owner Moi Garcia takes pride in bringing the night presence and music entertainment back into The Big Country, whether it’s with food and drink, live events, or just atmosphere in general. If you’re ever deprived of live music, Potosi Live will make sure to keep the vibes right and the night energetic.
The night started off with Waxahachie, TX, party boy Canaan Bryce opening up the event. I’ve previously had the pleasure of catching Canaan Bryce perform live last year, back when he opened up for Pecos & The Rooftops at Potosi Live as well. If there is one thing I can automatically point out in regards to Canaan Bryce is that he and his band know how to get the crowd going during their performances. The charisma and stage presence from Canaan Bryce always catches eyes at the venue, guitarist Shane Hudson performs his incredible solos, and their heavy interaction with the fans is a cherry on top. Bass player Hector Espino is constantly getting high interaction not only with the fans but with bandmates as well.
During the performance with Canaan, he played numerous tracks from his album Attitude Era, and with numerous fans singing lyrics to the majority of the songs throughout the setlist, Canaan Bryce for sure made his impact on Potosi fans and does everything in his power to give the crowd what they want. One track that always gets the crowd entertained when it comes to Bryce’s setlist is his cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus. My favorite track I’ve enjoyed during Bryce’s set was his performance of “3am,” with the amazing guitar licks and meaningful lyrics. Bryce also played numerous tracks from his upcoming album, releasing by next year, so for sure keep an eye out for Canaan and his boys putting in that work and getting back to performing live.

After Canaan and his boys got the crowd prepped up, Giovannie and The Hired Guns didn’t waste any time getting up on that stage. One thing that made a huge interest with me in regards to Gio and his crew is that they show no shame in standing out in the music industry with their Tejano Punk twist on music. Giovannie didn’t disappoint when it came to firing up that Potosi crowd, whether it was playing hits like “Ramon Ayala” from his notorious Tejano Punk Boyz album to playing fun covers of “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder.
The main portion of the event that got me ecstatic from the Tejano Punk Boyz was their high inspiration of Tejano music, with Giovannie and The Hired Guns bass player Alex Trejo being a multi-instrumentalist beast in his performance. Alex tackled bass guitar, synth, and even the tuba for Giovannie and The Hired Guns’ Tejano-based tracks. The guitarist of Gio’s crew, Carlos Villa, was also a huge pleasure to capture on stage, too, with his high stage presence, highly skilled solos, and just overall having a great time vibing with the Potosi crowd. Safe to say that front man Gio Yanez was amazing to watch on stage, and has no shame in showing people the true roots of Tejano pride and showing love to their roots. The Ramon Ayala– and Selena Quintanilla-type inspiration for sure shows with Gio and his crew, which is something cherished here in Texas. I would highly encourage anyone to check out Gio and the rest of the Tejano Punk Boyz if they roll into your town, these guys will rock your whole damn world!
