Nashville emo rock band Free Throw has released their new single “The Outlaw Star,” the latest preview of their upcoming album Moments Before The Wind, arriving March 27, 2026, via Wax Bodega.
The track follows the band’s previously released single “A Hero’s Grave” and continues building anticipation for the group’s sixth full-length album.
“The Outlaw Star was born from the ashes of a failed attempt while working in the studio,” the band explained. “We took the best parts of a broken song and reworked it to fit a faster more complete thought. The pace and power of ‘Outlaw Star’ complement the entirety of Moments Before The Wind.”
Produced once again by longtime collaborator Brett Romnes (Hot Mulligan, The Movielife), the album was written and recorded across two separate sessions between touring schedules. The break between sessions allowed the band to revisit the material with a fresh perspective, leading to new ideas and spontaneous sonic moments.
For vocalist and guitarist Cory Castro, the album documents an intense period of personal change. During the writing process, he navigated the end of a long-term relationship, personal reflection, and the life-altering discovery that he was going to become a father.
“The record has this theme of liminality – not just as a place, but in your mind,” Castro explained. “It’s like being stuck in a doorway or a hallway that never ends.”
The album title itself draws inspiration from Mark Z. Danielewski’s cult novel “House of Leaves,” referencing the fragile moment when life feels suspended between collapse and transformation.
Free Throw will celebrate the release with a special hometown show on May 30 at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville alongside Tigers Jaw, Ben Quad, and Pool Kids.
