A two-decade legacy: The Devil Wears Prada delivers a career-spanning set at Vibes Event Center

The Devil Wears Prada’s “Flowers Tourhit San Antonio, Texas, on March 15. The Devil Wears Prada, along with Four Year Strong, Split Chain, and I Promised the World, packed the Vibes Event Center for night three of the tour. This is The Devil Wears Prada’s fourth time playing at this venue and ninth time playing in San Antonio.

Starting off the night was I Promised the World, a local metalcore band out of Denton, Texas. Fresh off releasing their first self-titled EP after signing with Rise Records, they started the show in true Texas fashion, getting the locals amped for the night ahead. The band brings back that 2000s-era feel of punchy screams and melodic clean vocals; even the older genre fans were getting behind this new generation of the scene.

Next up was Split Chain out of Bristol, U.K. Split Chain’s grungy, nu-metal sound and analog TV stage props set the tone for their set. Vocalist Bert Martinez-Cowles’ commanding vocals whipped the crowd into a frenzy immediately after the set change. Their distorted, crunchy instrumental sound pumped into the crowd, calling for circle pits to open wall-to-wall. Their crowd-focused performance kept the audience engaged and wanting more of their nostalgic vibe.

The final opener of the night was none other than Worcester’s own Four Year Strong. Their amped-up hardcore and pop-punk sound was on full display. Mixing their full discography of classics and new releases, they delivered a set full of hit after hit. Not a single person was still as the crowd opened a pit full of two-steppers and moshers. With Four Year Strong’s fast-paced, high-energy set, fans were able to feel the full impact of the band’s relentless energy. Their continuous crowd connection made every call-and-response and sing-along a staple moment. Four Year Strong proves that, as OGs of the scene, they still have the goods when it comes to live performances.

The Devil Wears Prada hit the ground running, opening their set with “Where the Flowers Never Grow” and “So Low” from their recent album, Flowers. They didn’t wait long to pull out the classics and fan-favorite EP singles, giving the crowd a taste of every era of the band. After 20 years of music and touring, The Devil Wears Prada hasn’t lost a step, whether it comes to their youthful classic sound or the crisp production of their new material. It wouldn’t be a Devil Wears Prada show without a signature instrumental break. The atmosphere was beautifully intense in the best way possible, with continuous crowd surfers and mosh pits. The San Antonio crowd didn’t disappoint, and guitarist/vocalist Jeremy DePoyster took a moment to reminisce on the memories of playing the city over the years. After a setlist that would make any fan happy, they returned to the stage for an encore full of The Devil Wears Prada’s patented “punch-you-in-the-mouth” energy.
