Enterprise Earth and Nekrogoblikon Take Over for HANABIE. in NYC

What happened to HANABIE. at their Brooklyn show last weekend was every band’s nightmare: their lead singer, Yukina, lost her voice and was unable to perform. After several delays to showtime, the sold-out Brooklyn Bowl crowd murmured with a mix of confusion, anticipation, and worry — many had traveled far and waited long to see the Harajuku-core metal band. The four girls came up on stage and announced that they unfortunately had to cancel their set.

Though the disappointment was palpable in the room, the night was not yet ruined: Enterprise Earth and Nekrogoblikon, HANABIE’s two supporting acts, stepped up to play headlining sets of their own. Despite the circumstances, fans could still walk away that night with a show to remember.

Deathcore band Enterprise Earth took the stage first, barrelling through a breakneck-paced set that quickly brought the energy back up. In between guitar solos and Travis Worland’s inhuman vocals, they called for mosh pits and walls of death, and the crowd responded.

Walking out to the Pokémon theme song, Nekrogoblikon entered the stage, promising to deliver the headlining set that fans came to see. The comically strange metal band, fronted by their mascot John Goblikon, earned delight from those familiar with them and confusion from the uninitiated. But by the end of their performance, their bizarre charm was sure to win the crowd over.

Despite the unexpected circumstances, all of the bands handled it with grace and professionalism; they transformed what could’ve been a total disappointment into an opportunity to come together and support each other, and that spirit of collectivism is what the metal community should always strive for.
