Prostitute release debut album Attempted Martyr via Mute

Some debut albums introduce a band. Others arrive already carrying something larger.

Dearborn, Michigan’s Prostitute has officially released their debut full-length Attempted Martyr, now available on vinyl and CD via Mute.

The record is difficult to pin down in simple terms. It moves through post-hardcore, noise rock, and elements of electronic and global rhythm without settling into any one lane. The result is dense, sometimes overwhelming, and intentionally so.

Produced by Chris Koltay, Attempted Martyr builds tension through layered percussion, fractured samples, and sudden shifts in tone. It feels unstable in places, but not accidental. There is a clear sense of control beneath the noise.

At the center of the album is a thematic thread shaped by frontman Moe’s experiences growing up in Dearborn, a city with one of the largest Muslim populations in the United States. The record pulls from personal conflict, identity, and the lasting impact of xenophobia, framing those ideas through a fictionalized lens rather than direct commentary.

That distance matters. The album does not present itself as an answer or a statement of position. It feels more like an outlet, something that processes rather than resolves. There is anger here, but it is not directionless.

Since its initial limited release, Attempted Martyr has steadily built momentum, drawing attention for both its intensity and its willingness to push beyond straightforward genre boundaries. This wider release through Mute brings that work to a broader audience without changing its core.

The band’s upcoming tour schedule reflects that growth. Following a series of sold-out U.K. headline dates this spring, Prostitute will return for additional shows across Europe and the UK later this year, including a London headliner in August.

Debut albums rarely feel fully formed. This one does, but not in a way that feels complete. It feels like the beginning of something that is still actively unfolding.
