Bruno Mars The Romantic: Album review

No need to introduce Bruno Mars — he is one of the most influential and most-streamed artists in the world. This is especially a milestone album, coming after 10 years without a solo release.

Following Doo-Wops & HooligansUnorthodox Jukebox, and 24K Magic, he now presents his brand-new album, The Romantic: an album colored by love, but also a true musical turning point.

With collaborations featuring top artists, from Rosé of Blackpink to Lady Gaga, he leaves his mark with every song he releases. And yet, he still managed to surprise everyone by announcing his new album — and that’s exactly his strength.

As a reminder, Bruno Mars is first and foremost an exceptional songwriter, having written for some of the biggest names in music. Behind hits like Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” CeeLo Green’s “Forget You,” and Adele’s “All I Ask,” he has proven himself in the music industry and has stayed at the top.

The Romantic Bruno Mars tracklist

Love is a theme Bruno Mars knows inside out, and it has always been at the heart of his music. His songs make you dance, but he also knows how to touch your heart with tracks like “Talking To The Moon,” “Grenade,” “When I Was Your Man,” or more recently “Risk It All.” With his unmistakable voice, he has made a global impact and won over listeners of all generations.

Looking back at his musical career, Bruno Mars hasn’t been afraid to experiment with different styles: his first two albums were pop with strong R&B inspiration, followed by a funkier, hip-hop direction with “24K Magic,” and of course, his worldwide hit “Uptown Funk,” produced by Mark Ronson.

With The Romantic, we discover a mature, reflective album, drenched in shades of red and love. It opens powerfully with “Risk It All,” a ballad featuring trumpet. The arrangement is very stripped-down — a simple guitar carried by Bruno Mars’ powerful voice, later joined by percussion and strings — and it works incredibly well.

You can also hear the roots of his early albums. But above all, there’s no denying it: Bruno Mars is one of the best performers of his generation. Balancing power and tenderness, each song is full of nuance and variation.

With tracks like “Cha Cha Cha” or “I Just Might,” he really gets the party started. Because yes, this album feels like a celebration. “I Just Might” could easily be considered the “hit” of the album. Released as the lead single, it completely took over social media — and it’s easy to see why: everything is iconic, from the video to the dance moves, but most of all, the catchy, energetic chorus.

With its mix of styles, Latin sounds, and a blend of soul, pop, retro, and almost disco vibes, this album may be short, but that’s no accident. Bruno himself explained in an Instagram Q&A that he only releases an album when it feels ready, and that he prefers quality over quantity. And he’s right — looking at his previous projects, he usually alternates between nine and 11 songs.

The Romantic is a coherent album, full of nods to his roots and musical influences, while still offering something fresh and different. I’m also excited to see how he will present this album live. And yes, he will be performing in Paris for three exceptional dates at the Stade de France, and a full United States Tour and in Europe.
