Ashnikko took the Mission Ballroom on a trip down the rabbit hole — her purse — this past Saturday night. Her eclectic, theatrical show told a story through a setlist stacked with bangers like “Working Bitch” and “Slumber Party.” Opening act Princess Nokia kicked things off with a hair-whipping, high-energy set that had the crowd buzzing with anticipation.
By the time I arrived, the line to get in wrapped around the building and down the street. The Mission is one of my favorite venues for a reason. It’s built to hold a crowd safely and smoothly, the perfect place for a big, chaotic party. Ashnikko’s stage was a peek into her world: a trippy, feminine wonderland. Her sparkly, whimsical outfit matched the aesthetic, and the audience followed wearing bows, cute skirts, and glitter.
Ashnikko cares about every detail of her live show, and it shows in the production. Between the theatrical staging, the costumes, and a string of hits, the performance felt meticulously crafted. Seeing her live is absolutely worth every long line.
