Action sports is stepping into unfamiliar territory this week as X Games hosts the first professional draft in its history, setting the foundation for the new MoonPay X Games League.
The 2026 MoonPay X Games League (XGL) Draft takes place in Los Angeles on March 12, streaming live from Cosm at Hollywood Park. Fans can watch globally across the ESPN App, The Roku Sports Channel, YouTube, Kick, and Amazon’s X Games FAST channel.
50 athletes will be present for the event, with 40 selected across five rounds to form the league’s first four teams. Each club will feature a coed roster of ten athletes, split evenly between men and women.
The inaugural teams represent four global cities: XC Los Angeles, XC New York, XC São Paulo, and XC Tokyo. Each will compete across the 2026 summer season, introducing a team-based format that shifts action sports away from standalone events toward something more structured and ongoing.
General managers leading the selections include Sharalee “Haze” Hazen (Los Angeles), Steve Rodriguez (New York), Bob Burnquist (São Paulo), and Harumi Suzuki (Tokyo). The draft order was determined through a randomized lottery, with New York selecting first.
The athlete pool includes some of the most recognizable names in the space, including Nyjah Huston, Tom Schaar, Hannah Roberts, Arisa Trew, and Kevin Peraza, among others.
The draft marks a shift in how action sports are organized, introducing long-term team identity, season standings, and more consistent opportunities for athletes beyond individual competitions.
The MoonPay X Games League Summer Season begins June 26 in Sacramento, followed by events in Japan and a championship finale in New Orleans in late July.
