Free Throw releases ‘Moments Before The Wind’ and “MissingNo.” video

Free Throw just dropped Moments Before The Wind, their sixth full-length, and it leans into the kind of writing that feels lived in and experienced, reflecting the lessons learned over time and the growth they have all experienced.

Released via Wax Bodega, the record moves through eleven tracks that sit somewhere between Midwest emo and rough-edged punk, balancing technical guitar work with something a little more worn down emotionally.

The album opens with “MissingNo.,” which also arrives with a new video. There’s a sense of tension running through the record, not explosive, but constant. It feels like being stuck mid-thought, mid-decision, trying to move forward without fully knowing what that looks like yet.

That idea carries across the entire project. Frontman Cory Castro builds the record around a stretch of personal upheaval, a relationship ending, trying to make sense of what comes next, and then finding out he was going to become a father while the album was still being written. It gives the back half of the record a shift in weight, where things don’t necessarily resolve cleanly, but they start to move.

Working again with producer Brett Romnes, the band split the recording into two sessions, stepping away and coming back with a clearer sense of what the songs needed. You can hear that space in the final product. Nothing feels rushed. Nothing feels overworked either.

There’s a thread running through the album that deals with being in between versions of yourself. Not who you were, not fully who you’re becoming yet. It’s messy in the way real life is messy, and the band doesn’t try to clean that up.

With the album out now, Free Throw is heading back on the road this spring, including a stop at Summit Music Hall in Denver on April 15, before continuing through the U.S. and into the U.K. and EU later this year.
