The band PRESIDENT is an undeniably mysterious quartet. Perhaps it’s the anonymity, or the captivating incongruities between sound and appearance, that have drawn fans in at such a rapid rate. Either way, their atypical approach is proving to be exceedingly effective — an exciting North American tour with headliner Bad Omens just came to a close this March.
On March 26, the band’s new single “MERCY” was released alongside a lyric video/visualizer. The soundscapes of “MERCY” perfectly blend in with the rest of their discography, a heavy alt-metal vibe featuring incredible breakdowns. PRESIDENT shared a few words about the song and defined it as one about ties between religion, loss, and division:
“Throughout history, religion has been tied to profound division and loss. This song is a reflection on that reality, and a way for me to come to terms with what it means on a human level.”
There appears to be a new wave of alternative metal, and it has amassed millions of fans, including myself, who are searching for something new. I personally attended a show on the Bad Omens tour in Charlotte, North Carolina, a couple of weeks ago, and the turnout was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before — especially for bands that are relatively new to the scene. PRESIDENT was the first up, and they surpassed all of my expectations. I had no prior knowledge of the band — the lead singer’s voice completely blew me away. I was wildly impressed by their performance, theatrics, and stage presence—it’s rare for a band to draw me into a live show the way PRESIDENT did. Their talent is seriously unmatched.
