BLARF Film Scores for Films That Don’t Exist marks the return of Eric André’s experimental music project, arriving May 1 via Stones Throw Records.

Alongside the announcement, BLARF has released the new single “What’s For Dinner,” offering an early look at a project that expands far beyond the chaotic foundations of his 2019 debut Cease and Desist. Where that release leaned heavily into plunderphonics and unpredictability, this new album takes a more structured approach without losing its edge.

BLARF Film Scores for Films That Don’t Exist was recorded with full orchestras across Los Angeles and Budapest, bringing a level of scale that contrasts sharply with the project’s intentionally abrasive identity. Working alongside co-writer and producer Prateek Rajagopal, André builds compositions that feel cinematic at their core but are constantly disrupted, warped, or pushed into unexpected territory.

The album draws clear inspiration from composers like Ennio Morricone and Vangelis, but it rarely stays grounded in tradition for long. Moments of tension and beauty are often interrupted by distortion, noise, or sudden tonal shifts, creating something that feels less like a traditional score and more like a controlled breakdown of one.

That balance between technical composition and absurdity has always been central to BLARF, and BLARF Film Scores for Films That Don’t Exist leans fully into it. The result is a project that sits somewhere between orchestral performance, experimental music, and performance art, without committing entirely to any one lane.

To support the release, BLARF will present a live orchestral performance on April 27 at Zipper Hall in Los Angeles. The performance is expected to mirror the album’s scale while leaving room for the unpredictability that defines the project.

BLARF Film Scores for Films That Don’t Exist arrives May 1 via Stones Throw Records. If the lead single is any indication, this release pushes the project into something more intentional, more expansive, and harder to pin down.
