The Québécois prog-rock duo Angine de Poitrine has exploded with the spontaneity that would make internet skeptics and hecklers instinctively cry “industry plant!” But with their microtonal twist on noisy, avant-garde math rock and their mysterious, anonymous polka-dotted personas, it’s hard to believe that anyone could’ve predicted or orchestrated their sudden virality.
With 1.6 million Spotify monthly listeners and a KEXP performance that has racked up 8.7 million views and counting, Angine de Poitrine is quickly converting fans who can’t get enough of their dissonant, acidic sound. Thankfully, there’s now more to hear from them: on April 3, they released their new album Vol. II, successor to 2024’s Vol. I. Its six tracks are hypnotizing, luring the listener into their strange world with looping microtonal guitars, odd time signatures, and disco groove.
Angine de Poitrine is touring in Canada, the U.S., and Europe all throughout 2026, with many shows already sold out, including two nights at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge. You can still catch them at one of their remaining dates, or at one of their numerous festival appearances, including Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Hillside Festival in Ontario, or King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Field of Vision festival in Colorado.
