Atreyu has shared another single for their new upcoming collection of reimagined older tracks. This collection will feature ten tracks, two of which will be cover songs. The first teaser for this collection is a Tom Petty cover and just now they have presented us a new take on their song, Becoming the Bull. It’s title to the collection is The Pronoia Sessions and is made up of some of their classics.
The idea behind this started off during the pandemic and the band has decided to make it a complete reality, dropping the entire selection to streaming platforms on October 25. However, you will have to wait a little longer, until November 8, if you want a CD or vinyl of it. Additionally, the band decided that they really want to give a new experience with these songs and provide almost a broken down deconstructed recreated version to each song. To the song, Becoming the Bull specifically, they really wanted to give it a new life.
Now, I’m familiar with Atreyu but it’s been a hot minute since I really listened to them. If you listen to Becoming the Bull side by side with its reimagined version, you notice the differences. The original version which was released 17 years ago, its opening is a gritter riff to where the reimagined one starts off with a sleek smooth buttery like feeling. Before I go any further, I have to say that there is nothing wrong with either version. The band’s decision to make a reimagined version does not mean they don’t want us to stop listening to the original, it’s a means to hear it in another way, hence the term reimagined. It’s by no means a remix.
Okay, back to the song, listening to the songs side by side, it is definitely a different way to experience this song. But here’s the interesting part, the original has a beat that almost downplays as the song goes on where the reimagined one stays steady but slowly grows. It’s possible that maybe listening to the songs on two completely different platforms is changing how I hear it or the fact that I have a hearing loss and am not currently wearing my hearing aids. Don’t come for me. But there’s like a strength in the vocals that I actually kind of prefer in the reimagined as to the original.
Either way, both the original and this reimagined version are very good and you should definitely anticipate to see some more good stuff from coming from this band soon.
