For an artist who first hit the charts over 20 years ago, JoJo’s ability to pack a venue on a weeknight is impressive, especially when that venue is Boston’s Roadrunner—one of the larger venues in the city. On a chilly Wednesday evening, fans turned out in droves for the “Too Much To Say Tour,” and any doubts about JoJo’s enduring popularity were quickly laid to rest.
From the moment she stepped on stage, it was clear: JoJo isn’t just still here—she’s better than ever. Her vocal prowess, the very thing that launched her career at just 13, has only deepened with power and soul over the years. It’s rare to see a performer who can jump between eras of their catalog so seamlessly, but JoJo glided from 2000s staples like “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late” — cue the crowd screaming every single word — to cuts from her new EP, NGL, with the confidence of someone completely in control of her journey as an artist.
The night’s showstopper, though — and maybe the concert highlight of the year so far for me — was a stunning cover of Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control.” With a haze of fog — a bit more than planned, it seemed — swirling around her and vocals that took the roof off the venue, it became a moment you know fans will never forget.
Opening the evening was Emmy Meli, who brought a high-energy performance that leaned as much into choreography as it did vocals. A fun start to the night, setting the tone for what was to come.
For longtime fans and newcomers alike, JoJo’s show was a reminder of why she earned her place in pop history — and more importantly, why she still deserves a spotlight today. Nostalgic? Sure. But more than that, it was a bold, current, and thrilling night of music from an artist who clearly has much more to say. The “Too Much To Say Tour” continues through the end of May. If you happen to live in one of the cities she’s performing, this is a show worth your time.
