CLOVER, a rising New Jersey-bred singer-songwriter, unveiled a soul-baring new single and video, titled “Anymore,” this week, offering an emotional preview of her upcoming debut EP Atlas, which arrives May 30. The piano-driven ballad finds CLOVER turning personal pain into musical catharsis, delivering one of her most intimate performances to date. It’s a stark departure in tone from her earlier upbeat singles, serving as a final teaser before Atlas takes flight at month’s end.
“Anymore” was born from a moment of painful clarity in the artist’s life. CLOVER wrote the song on the day her father was headed to jail, after years of trying to pull him out of a downward spiral. Confronted with heartbreak and exhaustion, she poured those feelings into a spare, haunting melody as a form of release. “‘Anymore’ is … my declaration of surrendering the weight of someone else’s problems. It’s my path to freedom,” CLOVER says of finally letting go. She has described the song as one of Atlas’ “emotional gut-punches” – the kind that has even brought listeners to tears with its raw honesty.
Alongside the single, CLOVER has shared an intimate DIY-style music video that underscores the song’s unfiltered emotion. The video was filmed by her partner, Dani Sundream, and edited by CLOVER herself, reflecting the hands-on, personal nature of the project. Atlas as a whole was crafted with a similar authenticity. The five-track collection was recorded at New York’s legendary Electric Lady Studios with producer John Rooney – known for his work with Taylor Swift and Maggie Rogers – at the helm. Early listens reveal that Atlas spans a broad sonic terrain, from atmospheric folk to simmering neo-soul and delicate piano balladry, mirroring the breadth of CLOVER’s influences. The first taste of that range came with the synth-soaked shimmer of lead single “Used to It,” an upbeat 80s-tinged pop track inspired by her own cross-country pandemic love story. By contrast, the reflective title track, “Atlas,” grapples with the heavy burden of trying to hold everything together for loved ones, only to learn the power of letting go. Together, these songs showcase the young artist’s blend of vintage soul, folk warmth, and modern pop polish.
CLOVER’s journey to this moment has been as unconventional as her genre-blurring sound. Born in Lambertville, NJ, she famously bowed out of NBC’s The Voice before the televised competition even began, determined to maintain full creative control over her artistry. Instead of the quick boost of reality TV fame, she carved out a grassroots path on her own terms. Raised on a mix of musical influences – from the 1970s songwriting of Carole King to the soulful grooves of Lake Street Dive and the modern spirit of Maggie Rogers, along with blues powerhouse Susan Tedeschi – CLOVER developed a style that feels both nostalgic and fresh. In recent years, she has woven her ideals into her career at every step. During the pandemic, she quite literally took her show on the road, busking through dozens of cities with her fiancé and selling handmade sustainable merch out of their Subaru. She’s become an outspoken advocate in her music and actions: co-writing the empowerment anthem “Power” for artist MILCK (featured by ABC during Women’s History Month), lending her voice to women’s rights rallies like New York City’s Women’s March, and championing causes from environmental sustainability to female empowerment in her songwriting.
Now, with Atlas set to drop, CLOVER is gearing up to bring these deeply personal songs to the stage. Atlas will be released on May 30, and she’ll celebrate with an EP release show on June 5 at Brooklyn’s Sound Mind Center. There, fans can expect an evening of vulnerable storytelling and musical catharsis as this forward-thinking artist invites everyone to share in the next chapter of her journey.
