During my time at Bludfest, I had the pleasure of meeting Simon Walker, who was closing the Camden Stage right after Chase Atlantic’s set. He gathered quite a crowd during his set, performing a mix of his own songs and covers acoustically, and received some really great feedback from the whole crowd. I really enjoyed his set. He has an outstanding voice and picked some great songs that people can also sing along to and join in! I got some pictures of him while performing and later asked him if he would like to do an interview with me and he agreed. Enjoy finding out some more about Simon Walker!
What were you the most excited about when you found out you were performing at Bludfest?
It all came about very suddenly. Dom and Adam were both in a bar where I was performing on New Year’s Eve. I introduced myself and we got chatting. Two hours later, they asked me to perform and be a part of it. It didn’t really sink in until a few weeks before. I think it was just the chance to show myself to a new audience.
How did you find the crowd? What was the response you got from them?
The crowd was unreal and I felt so much love. The response after has been so good, too.
Who were you the most excited to see, and who was the best live?
Yungblud without a shadow of a doubt. I think what he’s done for music and the community as a whole is inspirational. The way he’s evolved with his music is incredible, too, and he’s just an amazing performer.
What is your favourite song to sing live and why?
A song of mine called “Worthless” because it’s a very special song to me and I think it’s relatable for so many people.
Have you got any shows coming up?
I’ve got a couple of smaller-scale festivals in the summer, as well as shows at the Amersham Arms London August 28 and the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge (opening for Kyle Falconer from The View).
Is there any new music/an album coming soon?
I’ve got a ton of new music I’m finishing off at the minute. I’m not sure if that will be a full album just yet or two separate EPs.
Will you be back at Bludfest next year?
I’d absolutely love to go back, either to perform or as a guest. I’ve spoken to the team since the festival and had some great feedback. I’ve said that I’d definitely be interested in being a part of it again in the future.
