The lyrics are direct and it shows that, even when the lyrics are simple, they can hold a deep impact to the listener. “Some Kind Of Evil” is a beautiful and polished single that’s filled with emotional resonance. I listened to this single several times. It’s warm and you can feel the fragility of Lily’s vocals throughout the single, with the gentle instrumentals that enhance her vocals to be able to express the deeper meaning of the lyrics. “Some Kind Of Evil” is an eye opener, in my opinion, because it expresses how someone you know thinks they are untouchable and that their actions are not toxic. This single is about narcissists that believe they don’t need to change.
“Party’s Over” has a cinematic and moody vibe to it, giving it such an authentic and raw soundscape. This single is filled with such deep intimacy because you can sense the vulnerability in Lily’s vocals. You can sense sadness in her vocals throughout the single, but as it progresses, you understand that sometimes it’s time to move forward in life, leaving behind toxic situations.
With Getting By, Lily Fitts cements her place as one of the most promising new voices in country-folk. Honest, vulnerable, and full of heart, the album marks a major milestone in her artistic journey.
