The Chainsmokers return with “White Wine & Adderall” – Out now

“You just try and tell the truth and make it sound good. And sometimes you listen back to it and you’re like holy shit maybe that is what I meant. That is what I mean, that is how I feel.” –Audacy Interview with Drew Taggart

When writing an article, I often find myself getting lost in multiple rabbit holes, trying to decide which direction to take. But for my favorite electronic duo of today – which by the way says A LOT – I want to look deeply at what makes these guys so good.

There are the beats and the drops that just absolutely smack you in the face, and then there are the lyrics. The honesty, rawness, and depth of the words written make these guys so special. If you want to think of an album that solidified everything that made them so successful, undoubtedly it has to be Memories… Do Not Open (2017).

No one is half of what you are,
I’m waiting for that call, white wine and adderall.

To be completely transparent, at the time of writing this paragraph, I hadn’t become as acquainted with the instrumentals as I had with the lyrics. Nonetheless, I already know that it will be my new favorite single of the year, and I expect nothing less than pulsing beats coupled with cutting-edge production.

“It took a whole day to get the main 3 lines of this song. We sat with the incredible Beau Nox scratching our heads and left the session ultimately thinking nothing would come from the tiny hook we had written. A couple days later Drew and I were talking about this UKG wave and I said I bet you can’t make a version of this in that world. A few hours later it was hitting pretty hard. It wasn’t a song that we immediately imagined releasing but after playing it in many of our shows and seeing the reaction it became clear to us it needed to come out. Last time I bet Drew he couldn’t make a certain style of song, we ended up with ‘Don’t Let Me Down.’ After all these years, maybe this is how we work best.” -Drew Taggart & Alex Pall

Upon listening, it is obvious this track is another banger, and an anthem that’ll surely define the summer. This is a track for fans of previous Chainsmokers tracks likeUp & Down,” Dillon Francis’ Pretty Low,” as well as other EDM downtempo tracks with trip-hop elements. The ebb and flow of the beats and lyrics are sure to bring you on a rollercoaster, so don’t miss this next step in the duo’s sound. As a huge fan of the boys, I will certainly continue to listen and dedicate at least an hour a day to listening to The Chainsmokers, awaiting their forthcoming hits.
