On July 11, 2025, Maddie Zahm released her new Bi Anthem, “Babygirl,” which is dedicated to all queer women who date men and live unapologetically authentic lives. The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter released the song alongside a self-directed music video that shows the relationship dynamic and love for her partner that she’s singing about. When talking about the inspiration for the song, Zahm shares, “I went on a date with someone who I asked their pronouns, and he said he/him/babygirl. I loved that so much. He went on about how gender is a playground and, since then, I’ve found so much joy in writing songs that let people explore the fluidity in gender and the many shades of femininity! ‘Babygirl’ is a bi anthem for her/him/babygirls. I love this song!”
“Babygirl,” along with her song “Mothers & Daughters,” are the first two singles she’s put out following the release of her EP that came out on March 28, (the angry part). “Mothers & Daughters” is about the complexity of mother-daughter relationships, and (the angry part) is a four-song exploration of various ways anger can present. The EP includes dance-inducing breakup anthems, bedroom pop about toxic men, and a ballad that explores the cannibalism of fame. The songs dig deep with how they journey through anger at others, yourself, and situations beyond your control, which is something that I find to be very prevalent in today’s society. In the spirit of Maddie Zahm, the feelings are strong, her voice is addictive, and the songs will hit you straight in the heart.
Maddie Zahm launched her career when her song “Fat Funny Friend” went viral on Tiktok. The song explores feelings of body dysmorphia, fat phobia, and societal pressure. The title track off her 2022 EP, You Might Not Like Her, tells the story of her leaving her hometown of Boise, Idaho, where she was a worship leader, and moving to Los Angeles where she came out as queer and did a lot of living to catch up with who she discovered she was. Many fans related to her stories and connected with her voice, which led to Zahm selling out her 2023 North American tour. Also, in 2023 Maddie Zahm released her debut album Now That I’ve Been Honest, which was critically acclaimed by Billboard, NPR, Consequence, Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, and more. The album is a glimpse into Maddie’s world and tells the personal, raw, and impactful stories of her life. Last year she toured the album and sold-out shows across the U.S.
Maddie Zahm has had great success with her music, which has gained her attention from Kelly Clarkson, NPR, Rolling Stone, and more. She recently appeared on “The Terrell Show,” and bonded with Terrell over religious upbringings and their coming out experiences. She also delivered stunning performances of some of her songs. Last year, Zahm debuted her song “little me” on the “Kelly Clarkson Show,” and has continued growing her fan base of 175 million streams and millions of fans on TikTok. I remember when her singles “Fat Funny Friend” and “You Might Not Like Her” gained popularity on TikTok, and how relatable they were to my life at the time. From that moment on, Maddie Zahm’s music stayed on my radar. Maddie Zahm is to hit the road again this fall with her “Sad and Sexy” tour across the U.S.
