The Cult Moves through Las Vegas

Heading to this show, I’ll admit—I only knew one of the bands on the card. However, after this electrifying night, each group earned a spot on my daily rotation. From soaring melodies, guttural screams, and a welcoming environment, Capstan and friends brought a wonderful show to Backstage Billiards in Las Vegas.

Setting the stage for the night was Florida-based Not Enough Space, a killer hardcore band with an amazing female lead presence. With vocals and cadence that switches so fast and smoothly, there was nothing left to be wanting from their set. The emotion and presence they have is commanding. Our leading ladies were so confident. What impressed me the most was the constant switching they did. Normally, you have one vocalist doing the throat and deep screams with the other doing all the clean vocals. That’s not the case here: our leading ladies kept a call game going the entire time, going back and forth with each other. To say that I was impressed in a vast understatement.

True North brought to the stage a consistent and nostalgic sound. While they have only been around for a few short years, their sound was very reminiscent of hardcore-emo bands of the 2000’s. I enjoyed the energy, as well as the overall involvement of crowd. The stage presence displayed was nothing short of showmanship. It was obvious that they have some real fans in the greater Las Vegas are. The most pit was constant, the head banging and fist bumping nearly impossible to stop throughout the whole crowd.

Personally, I was most excited to be hearing Colorblind. After finding them on a random playlist, they floated into a daily rotation for me. With a noticeably emo sound, soulful lyrics, and wonderful vocal presence, my enjoyment was definitely at a peak for the evening. One of my favorite things about being part of this industry is getting to see and feel the emotions that artists like this produce. Colorblind kept absolute attention from every show-goer, and they did so without ever pausing to breath. From start to finish, they kept the same energy and pace. It’s easy to see why Capstan brought them along on this tour.

Speaking of Capstan, our headliner, did a hell of a job with this entire show. I don’t know if they necessarily have a “cult” following; It is a true fan base. The cheers and applause that came about as they took to the stage was deafening in such a small space. We saw the set start with each member walking out in a cloak, carrying a candle, and humming/chanting like they really were leading a cult. Way to sell it guys!

From there, robes are stripped, candles snuffed, and away they go! With a 15-song set list, spanning the entire career of the band, you could tell they were in it to win. Sharing anecdotes and little stories between song, we were treated to a complete history, as well as an amazing show. We were even given treat with a few songs performed acoustically, something that they said was done specifically for this tour.

All in all, I can say without a doubt, this tour was a huge step for these bands. It was both exciting and electrifying. I can definitely say you should check out “The Cult Tour” as it comes to your city!
