Grammy award-winning artist Chance the Rapper has announced a new album, six years after the release of his last album, The Big Day. Chance the Rapper’s newest album, Star Line, is scheduled for release on August 15.

Star Line, a blend of hip-hop, soul, and experimental sounds, is a deeply personal project connecting back to many personal themes that have been prominent in the rapper’s life over the past six years. Aspects of the album, such as Chance’s travels to Ghana, Jamaica, various art fairs, and his continued collaborations with not only Brandon Breaux for the cover art, but also with his producer DexLvL, all create a deeply personal atmosphere surrounding the release of this long-anticipated album. While the album does carry a range of experiences and locations, ultimately the album remains rooted in Chance the Rapper’s deep connection to Chicago and to “Black culture across the diaspora.”

This connection to Chicago and black culture links back to not only the musicality of the album but also the visuals. The announcement of the new album also comes alongside the release of the album’s cover art, with breathtaking art designed by a longtime collaborator, Brandon Breaux. Brandon Breaux is a Chicago-based artist who has previously collaborated with the rapper on iconic covers for 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book. The cover is the product of the continued collaboration between Chance and Breaux as they have grown together as artists, while keeping their culture at the center of their work. The cover honors Chance’s evolution while also “remaining rooted in authenticity and cultural reverence.”

The lead single, “Tree,” is already out for listeners to enjoy, featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, accompanied by a music video directed by Chance, which is set in a Black women-owned dispensary that doubles as a growing facility. The visual celebrates “ownership, cultivation, and community-building, while challenging long-held stigmas around cannabis and Black entrepreneurship.” Watch the music video HERE.

An incredibly unique aspect of the next album is that each item currently available through the Star Line Gallery, including the CDs, features a built-in NFC chip that not only unlocks exclusive Star Line content but also utilizes a ‘tap and play’ feature, allowing fans to essentially stream the CD through Bluetooth, making Starline the first album that is NFC CD eligible for BILLBOARD.

Star Line is currently available for CD and digital pre-order at starlinegallery.co, along with a special Star Line Shipping Co. merch collection.
