Abi Carter delivered a dynamic performance at The Middle East Upstairs on Wednesday, showcasing the reason why she won the 22nd season of “American Idol.”

Ever since I saw Abi on “American Idol,” I had been rooting for her, so getting to see her perform live was really exciting. Inside, the venue was super intimate, which definitely made her stage presence stand out even more. She also had a live band with her, went right into the crowd for one song, and later included an interactive segment where the audience voted on their phone to choose the next song to play. The crowd ended up picking the song, “Don’t Stop Believin’,” by Journey, which she performed on keys. She sounded absolutely amazing live and moved so well between the piano and guitar.

Toward the end of the show, Abi brought out the opener, Carter Rubin, for a duet. She played the keys while they sang “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron. It was such a beautiful moment and they sounded amazing together.

The night started with Carter Rubin, who played a few additional unreleased songs and did a great cover of Gracie Abrams’ “I miss you, I’m sorry.” His set fit the space so perfectly and set the tone for the night.
