New York City genre-blenders VRSTY have returned with a fierce new single, “heartbreak blues,” a track that pushes their hybrid sound further by weaving together English and Spanish lyrics. The release highlights the band’s ability to balance aggression with emotional openness, pairing soaring vocal melodies with a simmering breakdown and unmistakable Latin influence.
“heartbreak blues” captures a raw emotional state, equal parts anger and attachment, channeling tension rather than resolution. Vocalist Joey Tyler describes the song as one of his most personal yet.
“‘heartbreak blues’ is probably one of the angriest yet most vulnerable songs I’ve written,” Tyler says. “It’s essentially about the feeling of being angry over someone you were prepared to give the world to, while still feeling incredibly connected to them.”
The conflict at the center of the song lingers rather than explodes.
“Sometimes, it’s harder to cut certain threads in life,” he adds. “I think this song perfectly hit that vibe for me.”
Beyond its emotional core, the single also marks a cultural milestone for the band.
“This is the first song where I naturally was like, ‘What if this part was in Spanish?,’ and it totally works,” Tyler explains. “It was nice to combine my love for heavy music and my love for my culture on this one.”
As 2026 approaches, momentum continues to build for VRSTY. More new music is already on the horizon, and the band will take “heartbreak blues” on the road this winter as direct support for Fire From the Gods.

Formed in New York City, VRSTY are known for a sound as diverse and restless as their hometown. Assembled by band leader Joey Varela, the group pulls from R&B, pop, Spanish music, and post-hardcore, blending genres with instinct rather than restraint. Their catalog—from early EPs to 2020’s Welcome Home and beyond—has earned praise from outlets including Kerrang!, Outburn, and Blabbermouth, while tracks like “Massive” have dominated SiriusXM Octane rotation.
Whether in the studio or onstage, VRSTY has built a reputation for connection, writing music for listeners navigating self-doubt, broken relationships, and the feeling of being on the outside. With “heartbreak blues,” the band continues to expand that mission, setting the tone for what promises to be a defining year ahead.
