The Stone Pony in Asbury Park set the perfect backdrop for a night of ‘90s alternative as The Verve Pipe and Our Lady Peace brought their tour to one of New Jersey’s most iconic venues. With a sold-out room and fans ready for a throwback night of some of their favorite songs, both bands delivered performances that felt both nostalgic and refreshingly current.
The Verve Pipe opened the night, and from the moment lead singer Brian Vander Ark stepped on stage, the crowd was locked in. Their set felt warm and effortless. Vander Ark’s vocals sounded just as strong as ever, and his easygoing and charming stage presence made the room feel intimate despite the packed crowd. When they launched into “The Freshmen,” and my personal favorite, “Colorful,” the audience sang along, turning the venue into one big sing-along. It was the perfect heartfelt set.
Our Lady Peace took the stage next, and the energy in the room was electric. Lead singer Raine Maida brought an immediate intensity, commanding the crowd with his signature vocals and dynamic presence. The band had a set that balanced fan favorites with deeper cuts. Maida’s voice carried effortlessly through the venue, and the band’s chemistry was undeniably tight, but still full of raw emotion.
There’s something special about seeing bands like these at The Stone Pony. The venue’s history and intimacy make every performance feel personal, and this night was no exception. Fans were fully part of the experience, singing and reliving the soundtrack of their younger years.
Together, The Verve Pipe and Our Lady Peace created a night that felt like a shared memory. Just two bands doing what they’ve always done best, connecting with fans through songs that have truly stood the test of time.
