Some bands mellow out over time. Others just get better at doing the same damage.
Los Angeles hardcore punk veterans DFL (Dead Fucking Last) have released their new single “Heavy Is The Head,” taken from their upcoming full-length Fuck It, arriving this spring via SBÄM Records.
The track doesn’t waste time. It moves fast, hits hard, and gets out. That has always been the point. DFL has never been interested in polish, and there is no reason to start now.
Fuck It continues that approach across nine tracks, leaning into the same mix of hardcore urgency and skate-punk attitude that defined their early releases in the ‘90s. The difference now is experience. The edges are still rough, but they’re intentional.
The album also pulls in a range of collaborators who have been part of punk and alternative music for decades. Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise handled production and contributed guitar and vocals across multiple tracks, while Mario Caldato Jr. returned to oversee vocal sessions, reconnecting with the band years after producing their debut.
DFL formed in 1993 out of a shared obsession with early hardcore, pulling members from both the Los Angeles and New York scenes. Their early records were short, chaotic, and loud in a way that felt closer to a live set than a studio release. That identity has carried forward, even through long gaps between releases.
To support the new album, the band will hit the road this spring for a run of dates alongside Pennywise, Circle Jerks, and H2O, followed by a festival appearance at Camp Punksylvania in June.

DFL has never tried to reinvent themselves. That is part of why they still work. The energy is the same. The attitude is the same. The only real difference is that they have been doing it long enough to know exactly what they are.
