“Heaven Sent” shows The Amity Affliction at their most personal yet

The Amity Affliction have released their new single Heaven Sent,” the final preview of their upcoming album House Of Cards, which arrives April 24.

Heaven Sent continues the tone set by earlier singles, but it hits harder on a personal level. The band leans further into the heavier side of their sound while keeping the emotional core that’s always defined their music.

The track pulls directly from frontman Joel Birch’s past, focusing on childhood trauma and the kind of complicated relationships that don’t really fade with time. It’s not dressed up or softened. The writing stays direct, letting the weight of the story carry the song instead of overproducing the moment.

There’s a pattern across what’s been released so far from House Of Cards. Songs like “Bleed” and the title track set the foundation, but “Heaven Sent” feels like where everything sharpens. It’s more focused, more intense, and a little less concerned with being accessible.

At this point, it’s clear the album isn’t aiming to reinvent the band. It’s doubling down on what they do best, just with more clarity behind it. The heaviness feels intentional, and that gives the newer material more weight and an authenticity that really takes them to a new level.

The Amity Affliction is currently on an extensive North American run with August Burns Red, Boundaries, and Heavensgate, with a Denver stop scheduled for May 2 at the Fillmore.
