Hong Kong native Jackson Wang brought his electrifying “Magic Man 2 Tour” to Oakland for a one-night residency. Oakland was the second stop of the American portion of his tour, after a stop in Los Angeles. Jackson worked with hip-hop dance group The Kinjaz to bring stunning, choreographed acts to his tour.
As fans walked into the venue, they were handed a finger light they could use throughout the show. Many fans wore clothes from Jackson’s clothing brand, TEAM WANG design, which was founded in 2020 in Shanghai. Many signs around the arena welcomed Jackson Wang to the Oakland Arena, and there were huge lines of fans waiting for their chance to take a picture with the signs.
Jackson began his set around 8:15 as the lights dimmed until they completely turned off. A video began playing on the big screen on stage, turning the over 19,000 capacity arena into a movie theater. The video introduced the character of Magic Man, who would be used throughout the rest of his performance. As the video ended, smoke filled the stage, and performers started crawling out. Jackson came out suspended in the air as he performed “High Alone.” After the first couple of songs, the performers ripped apart the suit that Jackson was wearing in an act. After an outfit change, the screen on the stage splits open, and Jackson comes out again in a straitjacket. After performances of “Dopamine” and “BUCK” from Magic Man and MAGICMAN2, he disappears again, and another video plays on the screen. This video included problems he had with his self-identity as he realized he should focus on his passions. Closing out the concert, Jackson announced that he had finished his next album and thanked the fans of Oakland. He exited the stage, and fans began chanting “Jackson! Jackson! Jackson!” Another visual appeared on the screen, and the screen split open once more. Jackson began pulling around 30-40 fans on stage from all over the arena. Jackson marched back and forth on stage with his fans until around 10:45, when the concert ended. He thanked his fans once more and gave a vulnerable speech before exiting the stage.
