Dance Gavin Dance are returning to familiar ground with the announcement of Tree City Sessions 3, set for digital release on May 22 via Rise Records.
The Dance Gavin Dance Tree City Sessions 3 release continues the band’s ongoing series of re-recorded material, pulling tracks from across their catalog and reshaping them with their current lineup and sound.
This isn’t just a greatest hits pass. The appeal of the Tree City Sessions series has always been in how the band reinterprets older material, tightening arrangements and leaning into the chemistry they’ve built over time rather than trying to recreate the originals exactly.
The new version of “Need Money” leads the rollout, bringing a sharper, more controlled energy to a track that already leaned into the band’s more unpredictable side. It’s a reminder that even their stranger moments tend to land when they commit fully to them.
The release follows their latest studio album, Pantheon, which pushed the band back toward a heavier and more experimental direction. In that context, Tree City Sessions 3 feels less like a step backward and more like a way of reframing where they’ve been while continuing to move forward.
Alongside the announcement, Dance Gavin Dance are heading out on a two-month North American tour starting May 5, with support from The Fall of Troy, Hail the Sun, and others depending on the date. The run includes a stop in Denver at the Fillmore on June 22.
The Tree City Sessions 3 release doesn’t try to redefine the band. It reinforces what’s already there, giving longtime fans a different way to experience songs they already know while keeping the focus on the band’s current form.

Tree City Sessions 3 arrives digitally May 22, with a physical release following on June 19.
