Waterparks lean in to uncertainty on new album JINX

Waterparks have announced their sixth studio album, JINX, set for release July 24 via BMG and Rise Records.

The album arrives alongside the release of a new single, PROWLER,” a track that pulls directly from a period of uncertainty and transition for frontman Awsten Knight.

According to Knight, the song was written during a time when the band separated from much of their longtime team and label structure, creating a sense of isolation that feeds directly into the tone of the track. Instead of dressing that up, “PROWLER” leans into it, keeping things raw and direct without overcomplicating the message.

That approach seems to carry across the album as a whole. JINX is built around themes of instability, visibility, and the constant tension between connection and distance. It’s inward-facing, but still tied to the kind of energy that has defined the band’s sound from the start.

The record also brings in a wide range of collaborators, including Mark Hoppus, Danny Elfman, Eric Nally, and Dillon Francis, suggesting a project that isn’t confined to one lane even as it focuses more heavily on personal themes.

Leading into the announcement, Waterparks had already released a series of singles, including “Red Guitar,” “If Lyrics Were Confidential,” and “Any Minute Now,” each building momentum toward the full project.

With nearly a billion streams across their catalog and a track record of chart success, the band isn’t exactly starting from scratch. Still, JINX feels positioned as more of a reset than a continuation, pulling from the same foundation but approaching it with a different perspective.

JINX will be released July 24 and is available now for pre-order.
