Rising pop trio Moody Joody is turning up the heat on anticipation for their upcoming full-length debut with a new single, “Little Blue House.” Anchored by fuzzy guitars and a chant-along hook, the track is a cheeky exploration of curiosity, specifically about what might be hiding in plain sight.
The single was released alongside a music video that matches its quirky, darkly humorous vibe, giving fans a visual taste of the song’s playful mystery.
Co-lead vocalist/guitarist Kaitie Forbes explains the inspiration behind the song: “This song came from some reflection on my teenage years and remembering my intense curiosity. I grew up in a town where everyone’s lives looked very similar and it was such a bubble that when I realized there was more out there I became so intrigued. This song comes from yearning and intense curiosity on how other people are living their lives and doing things their own way. The little blue house for me represents that life I dreamed of: indie music, exploration, rebellion, self confidence and true self expression.”
Kayla Hall, co-lead vocalist and synth player, adds a nostalgic layer, connecting the track to childhood adventures: “‘Little Blue House’ is dedicated to anybody that knows the feeling of growing up playing ding dong ditch, kick the can and ghost in the graveyard in their neighborhood. This song evokes the nostalgic feeling for me of a day of riding bikes with friends in the cul-de-sac, daydreaming about what’s going on in the neighbors’ house, and then laying on the bedroom floor pressing play on a silver boombox with an LFO CD. ‘Little Blue House’ feels like something completely different than anything we’ve put out thus far and is a little Easter egg towards our album!”
Producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Pacheco described the track’s creation as a spontaneous experiment: “I was visiting my parents in New Jersey and listening to ‘Genius of Love’ by Tom Tom Club, thinking about how fun it would be for us to have a song with a groove like that. I almost never make a track before we start writing, but I just opened my laptop and started making a drum loop that became the backbone of ‘Little Blue House.’ It’s a quirkier song for us that took a couple sessions to really hash out the writing and arrangement, but we had so much fun just leaning into the playful curiosity of the song.”
Moody Joody has been on a roll over the past year, gaining attention with singles like “Loretta’s Last Call,” which landed on Sirius Alt Nation and major playlists including Amazon’s Breakthrough Pop and Spotify’s New Music Friday. Their breakout began with “OOPS!,” a track co-written with GRAMMY-nominated hitmaker Scott Harris. With over 21 million streams across their catalog and coverage from Rolling Stone, The Fader, MTV, and more, the trio has also made their mark live, performing at SXSW, Austin City Limits, and touring with The Maine, Smallpools, Misterwives, and ARIZONA.
“Little Blue House” gives a taste of the trio’s evolving sound as they gear up for their full-length debut, expected later this year, a project fans have been eagerly awaiting.
