On May 15, 2026- Bri Carter released a new single “Sonder” featuring Yung Van and Lil Skele that represents the complexity of love and hate. Capturing the meaning behind the word sonder and turning it into such an atmospheric soundscape showcasing the vulnerability of the lyricism throughout the single. The vocals of all three artists have a quiet ache in their voices that makes the single feel more emotional and human. “Sonder” has more of a dreamy R&B vibe that makes it more intimate that makes the lyrics reflective and honestly filled with intense emotional honesty.
““Sonder” means the realization and understanding that all other people have lives as complex as one’s own. It’s a beautiful thing but also so complicated in love because you can never truly know everything they’re feeling and experiencing. Everyone has their own reasoning for doing things and while it may not make sense to you, it makes sense to them. Everyone is their own main character in their story which is a hard feeling to grasp, especially when your own emotions are at stake.”
“We actually wrote this song last year! Yung Van and I were supposed to do a West Coast Tour together that unfortunately fell through, but we thought this would be something cool we could perform at the shows. So instead of letting a good song go to waste, we decided to drop it this year and maybe we’ll get another chance to perform it live together!“
I asked Bri about if the single had a personal experience tied behind it;
“I open up my verse with the lyrics “Why you texting me like ‘how you been?’ / You don’t want to know how / I’ve been making songs that you won’t like / So put your phone down” and I just feel like that perfectly describes how it feels to be an artist. Like if you ever want to know how I’m doing, just listen to my music and you’ll find out something!“
