Last week, U.K. pop star Alessi Rose returned with a brand-new single, “Skin,” six months after releasing her “Voyeur (Deluxe)” EP. The single, out now via Capitol Records, is accompanied by a visualiser – Listen HERE and watch the “Skin” visual HERE.
The start of this new era feels more authentic and vulnerable than ever, with “Skin” exploring the pain and confusion that come with losing yourself in the pursuit of pleasing others. The track is produced and co-written by multi-platinum songwriter and producer Adam Yaron, who works closely with Alex Warren.
The first part of the song is stripped back, built around a taut piano and her crystal-clear vocals, which heighten its vulnerable and delicate atmosphere, before acoustic guitar, glowing synths, and drums that crackle like fireworks slowly enter the mix.

“Think I’m back in the emptiness, wearing somebody else’s skin / Still I try to be whatever you desire,” sings Alessi. “Now they’re turning on all the lights, who am I without a disguise? / I look at me and don’t even recognize her.”
The visualiser, directed by Phoebe Lettice Thompson, adds to the authentic touch, with Alessi being filmed on an old vintage camera in a house that feels like hers. With close-ups of flowers, Alessi lost in thought, and her lip-syncing, it perfectly encapsulates the feeling of the song: being lost in everything happening around us.
Alessi shared she wrote the song in a period that felt very different to her, “I have been lucky enough to be locked away in the studio burrowing into the many feelings I have simmering under the surface, many of them remnants of a crazy last year, and I hadn’t realized how much of my OCD-ridden brain was so dependent on the validation of others — people telling me I was doing good and it was all going to be okay. ‘Skin’ was the realization that the more you try to be everything that everyone else wants, the less you feel like yourself. Sometimes my skin feels uncomfortable, but I’m learning to exist in it honestly anyway.”

With “Skin,” Alessi Rose opens a more vulnerable and honest chapter, exploring self-doubt and the search for identity.
Alessi is now preparing herself for a wild run of international festivals this summer, including Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Isle of Wight Festival, Lollapalooza Berlin, Pukkelpop, and many more, plus a pair of concerts at BST Hyde Park in July and opening for Lorde at Edinburgh’s Highland Showgrounds in August.
