American GRAMMY-nominated artist WILLOW has just announced her ninth studio album, The Thread, set for release on July 24. With the announcement comes a brand-new single, “Talk On The Hill,” accompanied by an official visualizer.
WILLOW was deeply inspired by the podcast The Telepathy Tapes, created by Ky Dickens and researcher Dr. Diane Hennacy Powell, for both this single and the album as a whole. She approaches subjects as the exploration of consciousness, intuition, and nontraditional communication research. On “Talk On The Hill,” she explores the unseen connections that exist on Earth, beyond conventional human understanding, and her desire to learn more about them. “Wish I could see such an unusual freedom / Show me how to.”
WILLOW shared: “I want to thank Dr. Diane Hennacy Powell and Ky Dickens for their extraordinary bravery in studying and documenting the quiet teachers whose gifts stand at the threshold of mysteries our culture has barely begun to contemplate.”

The visualizer feels like an actual music video, with WILLOW accompanied by two performers dressed in blue gowns and traditional masks, dancing and singing on a beautiful set. In the background hangs a painted sky with what appears to be red mountains, while grassy hills sit in the foreground, which WILLOW interacts with throughout the video. The visual emphasizes the song’s meaning, with WILLOW seeking a deeper connection to the Earth.
WILLOW explores spirituality as she never has before, in a deeper and more intimate way, and it is reflected in both the single’s musicality and what we can expect from the album. She has described The Thread as a “devotional” album, a deeply immersive body of work exploring the divine feminine, spiritual evolution, and humanity’s connection to higher consciousness.
As seen throughout her previous releases, WILLOW is known for experimenting with sounds and genres, bending them to her vision. This album is no exception, blending progressive R&B, alternative jazz, meditative soundscapes, and atmospheric soul. We may anticipate that this album, which she is working on again with producer Chris Greatti, will be her most developed work to date, with a new degree of accuracy in her approach to melody and structure.
