Basement release first new LP in 8+ years and share “Time Waster” | “WIRED” out now via Run For Cover Records | UK tour currently underway

“Call it poetic justice, but that this album gets better with every listen is a fitting evaluation for a record that has been written and reworked across so many years. The bottom line, though, is that Basement are back, and it feels as though they never left.” – Kerrang!

“Whatever may be behind the occasional hiatus, it’s not because of a lack of nous when it comes to massive hooks and gripping soundscapes: WIRED is full of them” – The Arts Desk

“We are cast under Basement’s spell, once again.” – CLASH

“Basement reaffirm why they are a beloved mainstay of the UK rock and emo scene” – Rolling Stone U.K. “a testament to how inseparable the creative force of Basement is” – The Line Of Best Fit

The iconic alternative-rock band Basement returned with the release of Wired, their first new album in over eight years, via Run For Cover Records. They also shared the main track “Time Waster,” which is a fitting intro to the intensity and urgency of the LP. This album marks a new chapter for the band as they defy genre limitations, and present their most authentic and fully realized work so far. Produced by John Congleton (Death Cab For Cutie, Wallows, Angel Olsen), Wired showcases the music of five friends who’ve endured a plethora of ups and downs together, and who created the uncompromising songs that first moved them.

Preceding the release of Wired, Basement shared the title track, “Broken By Design,” “The Way I Feel,” and most recently, “Head Alight.” The singles have gotten the attention of Kerrang!, Rock Sound, DIY, Dork, and The Line of Best Fit. The band is also coming off of a surprise performance at Mikey’s in Los Angeles, with a performance that had fans wrapped around the street, stage diving, and moshing until their hearts’ content. Check out the chaotic fun shared by @torresblends, @Knotfest, @notyournatalie, and @jonweisberg, amongst others. Basement will set out on their European tour starting on June 5, and will be headlining Manchester’s Outbreak Festival in June. Additionally, they’ll be making an appearance at London’s All Points East Festival in August, and their North American tour dates will soon be announced.

Basement is comprised of vocalist Andrew Fisher, guitarists Alex Henery and Ronan Crix, bassist Duncan Stewart, and drummer James Fisher, and they’re adamant that Wired is their most decisive piece of work to date. It’s a statement that fans will either love or hate, and it is impossible not to elicit a reaction from people either way. The band took a lot of time over the last 12 years perfecting the tracklist and learning to communicate better than they ever have. By the time they hit the studio with powerhouse producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Mannequin Pussy), the songs were fully formed. He helped Basement manifest the realized version of themselves that they’ve always dreamt of. Every moment on Wired is deliberate and precise.

“I never thought Basement could sound like this,” says guitarist Alex Henery. “But in my head, it’s what I’ve always wanted Basement to sound like.” The funny thing is that every time the band would take a break, they would become bigger. Their 2011 debut, I Wish You Could Stay Here, cemented them as a pillar of the post-hardcore scene, but Basement had already decided to call it quits before their follow-up Colourmeinkindness had even released. Upon their disbandment in 2012, so vocalist Fisher could get his teaching degree, the band’s underground following continued to expand, welcoming them back as a mainstay of the scene when they returned in 2014.

Basement continued their career with two more LPs: 2016’s Promise Everything and 2018’s more polished Beside Myself. After the release of these albums on a major label, the band decided that they needed to recalibrate with a year off.  “We were all left with a really weird, sour taste in our mouth after signing to a major label and having all these people control things,” Fisher admits. During their COVID hiatus, each member of Basement questioned whether or not the band should continue as they each pursued their own creative outlets. This period of existential reflection caused Henery to almost step away from the band altogether until Fisher intervened with the knowledge that everyone in Basement needed to persevere. ”Alex saying that he was ready to cut the cord was what I needed to be like ‘Nope, we cannot do that,’” Fisher says.

After some vital conversations to solidify their creative alliance, Henry and Fisher began writing again with no pressure from a major label and no strings attached. The seeds of Wired were instantly planted as the band worked, and before they knew it, the band had something incredibly special in the works. Not long after the band began properly crafting their fifth LP, their song “Covet” off of Colourmeinkindness went viral on TikTok and earned a Gold certification in 2024, 12 years post its release. The internet sensation brought a new generation of fans to Basement, and just in time to be blown away by a whole new album.

Basement has once again found themselves emerging with new music and more fans than ever before.
