Last month, Lola Young released a new single, “From Down Here,” following her acclaimed album Only Fucking Myself and the hit single “Messy.” This new chapter in Lola’s music journey is very exciting for her fans. This single is giving everyone insight into Lola’s world and how she’s doing. Musically, it’s giving a sneak peek of what’s to come.
Lola is coming back to music after taking a necessary break to focus on her mental health, and this song beautifully lets people in on what is going on in her mind. In an interview, Lola shared that the song came to her right after the Grammys in March, where she won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Messy,” and she jumped straight into the studio with James Blake. “From Down Here” explores her attempt to navigate the complex feelings of joy and pain, while still searching for clarity. Throughout the song, you can hear all the emotions she’s experiencing and working through. She sums it up best in her words about the song: “I am rewriting the next chapter of my story because what a boring book the old one would’ve been anyway.”
Lola is returning to the stage this summer and will headline shows throughout the U.K., kicking it off at O2 Apollo in Manchester. Other shows will be happening in Birmingham and Glasgow, with two hometown shows at O2 Academy Brixton in London. Lola is also returning to the stage in the U.S., starting with a performance at All Things Go NYC in September and at Austin City Limits in October.
This single offers the best sneak peek into Lola Young’s new chapter. She is truly becoming such a force in the industry, and she is helping the industry and everyone to remind us that you have to put your well-being and mental health first above anything. We can overcome our struggles. I know I’m not the only one who is excited to see what she creates next.
