On June 5, Swedish DJ Alesso makes a stop at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for a four-city U.S. tour with stops in Morrison, New York, and Los Angeles, California, as well. Alesso began his two-hour set at around 9:45. As the screen and lights on the stage gradually got brighter, Alesso made his appearance before the first beat drop. The lighting and stage design were extremely unique for this show. Many beat drops featured stage effects, including pyrotechnics, fireworks, lasers, and beams of light shooting across the venue. Fans in the crowd danced and vibed out to the many remixes sprinkled through the setlist and brought many props like an inflatable pig and bubble blasters. Alesso added a lot of fan favorites in his setlist, including “Surrender” with Becky Hill, a remix of “Scared to Be Lonely” by Dua Lipa and Martin Garrix, and a remix of “A Sky Full Of Stars” by Coldplay. Closing out his setlist, he played “If I Lose Myself – Alesso vs OneRepublic,” a remix of Daft Punk’s “One More Time,” and to close it all out, “Heroes (we could be)” with Tove Lo.
Supporting Alesso was Australian EDM trio, Sentinel. Sentinel brought a unique sound to the stage and had a fantastic opening set. The trio performed “Hurricane,” their collaboration with Martin Garrix and Bonn, and remixed “Cornfield Chase” by Hans Zimmer.
The second opening set featured Toronto native JOA. JOA has only been in the EDM space for a little over a year, but has created a sophisticated sound through his projects “Heavy” with Armin van Buuren and “The Spot” with ARTBAT.
