Boundaries have released the fourth single, “May this pain never leave,” from their upcoming album Yearning: the unbeautiful after, set to be released July 17, alongside a performance video directed by the band’s longtime photographer/videographer, Sarah Holick. The video, shot in Boundaries’ hometown of Hartford, Connecticut, at The Webster Underground, opens with a dedication to fellow music industry professionals and friends who tragically passed in a plane crash last year: Dave Shapiro, Kendall Fortner, Emma Huke, and Daniel Carmelo. The grainy yellow filter and shaker jump cuts of the video allude to the days of 2000s metalcore, a fitting tribute to one of the names that contributed to the success of many bands that emerged in the scene during that time period.
The song’s guitar riffs and heaviness take you back to 2000s metalcore as well, and the lyrics eloquently speak to the feeling of grief after losing a loved one. Vocalist Matthew McDougal explains, “The premise of the song is laid out very plainly and intentionally. It exists as an extension of the Colin Parkes quote: ‘The pain of grief is just as much a part of life as the joy of love; it is, perhaps, the price we pay for love, the cost of commitment.’ With the sudden and violent loss of a number of people close to the band this past year, it became impossible not to write about the bereavement and the subsequent emotions. As much as it hurts to miss these people, I hope with all my heart it never stops so that I may miss them with the weight and significance they deserve.”
“May this pain never leave” follows the release of three other songs from the upcoming album “Death will follow me,” “Skies cast amber black,” and “Only endless“. The 14-track album, produced by Drew Fulk (Knocked Loose, Fit For A King), features guest appearances from The Plot In You’s Landon Tewers (“Crowned and crucified”) and Make Them Suffer (“Torn wide open”). The album is available to pre-order and pre-save now and will be released on July 17, 2026.
With Yearning: the unbeautiful after, Boundaries remains as heavy and aggressive as ever. “With the record, we aimed to be uncompromising and really plant our flag,” McDougal stated. “As more time passes, heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something. We tried to create an album with urgency.”
