Moody Joody has announced the release date for their long-awaited debut album. The rising pop trio will release Plain Jane on October 30 via Photo Finish Records.
The album, which follows a string of recent singles, finds Moody Joody exploring themes of “the evolution of self, owning your humanness, self acceptance, nostalgia and reflection.”
To celebrate the announcement, Moody Joody will bring their new material to the stage with a special New York City performance at Nightclub 101 on July 8. Tickets can be purchased here.
“We have been talking about this album and have had the title/concept since the early days of the band in 2020,” says co-lead vocalist and guitarist Kaitie Forbes. “For us to finally be putting it out into the world feels so surreal. It’s a concept album full of highs and lows, twists and turns, the pursuit of chasing your dreams and finding your most authentic self along the way. We have put so much thought and intention into every detail and my biggest hope is that someone somewhere will hear it for the first time and feel completely seen and less alone. And then continue to turn back to it whenever they need comfort- just like I have done with my favorite albums. We cannot wait for the world to hear what we’ve been pouring our hearts into for a long, long time now. We’re so excited for everyone to meet Plain Jane.”
Co-lead vocalist and synth player Kayla Hall says, “Plain Jane was born from a place of longing to take up space, unapologetically and boldly as a woman in the world. The album takes you through a musical and deeply personal journey of the trials and tribulations of what it looks like to build a life of your own and what life looks like after you burn it all down to get there. This album is equal parts sugar and spice. Grit and glimmer. We want to give our fans a world to get lost in, to see themselves in, something that makes them feel understood.”
Alongside the album announcement, Moody Joody has also unveiled a new single, “Suburbia.” The track finds Moody Joody leaning into their signature synth-driven pop sound while zeroing in on the uneasy trade-offs behind the so-called “American Dream.” Built around shimmering production and an emotional undercurrent, the track looks at what gets left behind when ambition gives way to comfort and something a little more conventional, setting the tone for the world of their upcoming debut album. “You traded me in/for the American Dream/right before you hit/the silver screen/you traded your life for suits and ties/settle down for a wife/maybe a secret life.”
The song was written in Brooklyn in January 2025 with songwriter Scott Harris, whose credits include work with Role Model, Shawn Mendes, and Justin Bieber.
“It feels so right to formally invite everyone into the world of Plain Jane with this song,” multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrew Pacheco says of “Suburbia.” “We wrote it in January 2025 in Brooklyn with Scott Harris (Role Model, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber) and immediately could tell it was emotionally a cornerstone of the record. We’ve been dreaming up this album since we started the band six years ago, and can’t wait for everyone to hear it in full this fall.”
The announcement comes on the heals of a busy stretch for the trio. Recent releases including “Little Blue House,” “Loretta’s Last Call,” and “OOPS!” have helped build momentum ahead of the album, earning support from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation as well as placements across major streaming playlists. The band has also surpassed 21 million global streams and landed coverage from outlets including Rolling Stone, The Fader, Notion, MTV, and Ladygunn.
Moody Joody has continued to expand their audience through appearances at SXSW and Austin City Limits and while sharing stages with artists such as The Maine, Smallpools, MisterWives, and ARIZONA. With Plain Jane finally on the horizon, the trio’s biggest chapter yet appears ready to begin.
