Alternative rock visionary KennyHoopla has joined forces with The Strokes’ guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. for a thrashing new track, “NEW AMERICA//,” available now on all digital streaming platforms. Arriving on Juneteenth, KennyHoopla’s storytelling unfolds with striking intention, examining cycles of inequality, generational trauma, and the illusion of progress as it confronts the ways America continually repaints its past instead of rebuilding its foundation.
Delving into his mindset, Kennyhoopla shares:
“At its core ‘New America’ is a cynical play on words. Modern society sells us a vision of ‘newness,’ but underneath the fresh paint, America is just making the bed but hiding the mess underneath it. History is being rebuilt with the exact same old bricks; the house is just a different color, and the foundation is still stained by yesterday’s blood. We are still fighting the same battles for equality that our elders fought, but the conflict has moved from the streets to the screen.
Every ounce of trauma is simply repurposed. Tragically, our progress is always paid for by martyrs, forcing us to lose someone or something just to gain an inch. The central lyric, ‘We’re falling up, it’s the story of my generation,’ captures this exhausting cycle. Almost winning by accident. Rather than offering a neat solution, this song is an analysis of our current reality more than it is at all an answer. This is my attempt to make my own personal political aimed anthem for my generation that I’d want to hear with my perspective.”
The collaboration with Albert carries a sense of destiny for Kennyhoopla, who reflects, “It was a dream come true to finally make something with Albert – I grew up listening to The Strokes like we all did. It’s still unreal. His guitar playing is a call to assembly that was necessary for this record. He did it.”
Albert echoes that admiration, adding, “Working with Kenny on this was so special. He is definitely one of a kind. I’m happy people can finally hear it.”

The release follows KennyHoopla’s fifth EP, “conditions of an orphan//,” further extending his ongoing climb toward embracing the music that raised him while peeling back the layers of his own lived experiences through sincere lyricism. With one LP, six EPs, and a growing catalog of singles already behind him, KennyHoopla continues carving out a lane entirely distinctive, weaving together dance-punk, post-punk, emo, and alternative rock into a sound that feels instantly recognizable the moment it reaches your ears.
This summer, KennyHoopla steps onto the stage alongside Young The Giant and Cold War Kids for the “Victory Garden Tour,” with dates bending into July and August. If “NEW AMERICA//” is any indication, a new chapter is being scribed in real time, and it’s not a story you’ll want to skim through.
