History lives on: Behind The Lines premieres at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum

September 11 is a day that will never be forgotten in American history. “Behind the Lines: 9/11 Memorial & Museums” premiered on June 10 at 6:00 p.m to commemorate the historic event. 9/11 is a tragic day that happened almost 25 years ago, and has changed the country in so many different ways.

Bill Spade, the only living surviving responder from Rescue 5, and Jaymes Poling, who fought for three years in Afghanistan, came together to reflect on one of the most difficult moments of their lives, discussing loss, trauma, and survival. Despite coming from different backgrounds, both men found common ground in their horrific past.

One of the most powerful things about any type of story is music. Through Spade and Poling’s stories, Farinacci and a cast of renowned musicians composed a powerful performance that would make the crowd reflect on what happened that day and remember the lives of people we don’t know that we lost.

This is a huge deal because this year marks the 25th year of 9/11. 25 years have passed since we lost a sister, brother, dad, mom, uncle, aunt, grandparent, a friend, and/or a neighbor. 25 years since our country was attacked and had to face the fear of what happens next? This year also marks the 250th year of the Declaration of Independence. This night was not just a memorial, but a reminder that we only live once and hold the ones around you tight, because you may never know what will happen tomorrow.

I would like to add to this: if you are reading, please take a second and think of those who lost their lives that day or the families and friends who have to suffer with the loss of their loved one.
